Parking Lot Safety
Our church parking lot is congested and doesn’t provide a good traffic flow. I’m concerned when we have big events, such as our summer children’s ministry events, that a car will hit a child. I’ve seen larger churches use volunteers to direct traffic. How can our church begin to build a parking lot safety team, and what are some ways we can make our parking lot safer?

A Parking Team does facilitate the efficient and effective flow of traffic (whether pedestrian or vehicular). There are many benefits to having a Parking Team. Our Parking Team started with my brother and I, and it grew from there. One of the biggest things is that guests will not approach a church and be intimated by four walls. A friendly smile breaks down the "walls." You will find that a Parking Team will help make big events an even greater success. For those Parking Team Coordinators who are interested, you can send an e-mail to engage.ministry@yahoo.com. An invitation will be sent to you to join a site that connects Parking Team Coordinators with one another from all across the nation. Anyone that is a Parking Team Coordinator is invited.

I attend a church that has an attendance of 800, we have a security team that helps in the parking lot during special events and to some extent during regular service. During special events we have members strategically placed guiding traffic so that we fill the parking lot up beginning at one end and then flowing to the other rather than letting them randomly park. This controls traffic as well as speed.
During service we place memebers at the Childrens ministry locations controling the speed and flow of traffic. We took a look at our parking lot and mapped out the most effective places to place security members to aid in controlling traffic flow. We tagged areas of the parking lot , for instance parking lot A, and parking lot B. We stay in constant contact via 2 way radios. This works very well. We have also seen a reduction in loitering in the parking lots.
