Keeping the nursery clean is vital to the health of your children and volunteers. The nursery can be a petri dish for bacteria and viruses to spread, so use precautions and procedures, like the simple tips below, to keep these well-used rooms germ-free.

Inform the Parents

Create written guidelines. Provide written guidelines you keep for the nursery that you can give to new parents as they drop off their kids. This will give the parents confidence in your facilities and system.

Communicate your wellness policy. Inform the parents that you do not allow sick volunteers or children into the nursery for the sake of those who are well.

Clean Thoroughly

Do routine cleans. The nursery should stay continually clean. In addition to scheduling weekly cleans of the nursery, volunteers should be disinfecting toys and surfaces after each use, between each service.

Wash your hands. Washing your hands is the best way to protect yourself from germs, and to prevent germs from spreading to someone else.

Replace and renew. Regularly change the trash bags in the nursery and clean the cans with soapy water. You'll also want to replace sheets on cribs after each use.
